My 1:1 tuition is £45 per session for KS3 and GCSE/IGCSE and £55 for A level Chemistry. This includes an hour of tuition planned to meet the needs and learning styles of your child and homework tasks set between sessions to further aid progress. I will also mark homework submitted to me and provide written feedback to highlight areas of strength and help close gaps in knowledge.
My group sessions are charged at £15 per session (year 11). This includes an hour's interactive class complete with lesson resources. Homework is an optional extra.
I am trained to work with students studying under a range of awarding bodies for A level, GCSE and IGCSE. If one to one tuition is requested I will teach to the specification you require. My group classes are tailored to cover the key scientific concepts in the GCSE AQA/OCR and Edexcel specifications.
Most definitely. We must remember that, ultimately, your child is going to sit an examination to obtain a grade in science (or biology, chemistry, physics) and so exam technique skills and exam practice is included in each lesson I teach. How heavily the focus is on this will depend on the year group of the student as well as individual needs.
Of course!
I am qualified teacher of science and my training and vast experience covers biology, physics and chemistry.
My group classes will study biology, physics and chemistry across each half term.
I use Zoom. All of my lessons and classes are scheduled and the client sent the link so the student can join at the correct time/day.
This will not always be possible as my group places are likely to be filled by my regular students. You can always enquire and I will accommodate where possible.
I will add though, that, in order to gain the full benefits of my expertise and to have this transpire into observable developments in student confidence levels and academic progress, I advise you book regular tuition slots such as that planned out under my group class schedule. Meeting with and teaching your child regularly allows me to get to know their learning styles, strengths and areas for development and thus, make the lessons, resources and homework bespoke. The benefits of these advantages will wane if sessions are sporadic.
I share my resources through an online platform called 'Tutor bird'. You will be provided with log in details to your own, private area from which you can access all lesson resources, homework and homework feedback. Your child can also be given direct access if they have their own email address.
I have a maximum of 8 in any group (including courses) as this number allows me to individualise teaching and feedback for optimal benefit, making the learning experience bespoke to each individual student.
This should never be a barrier, a deterrent, to accessing group tuition.
I can always aid progress even when a student attends the lesson with a good knowledge base.
Each lesson begins with some retrieval practice which will help consolidate prior learning. I will use the feedback gained from the retrieval task(s) to gauge your child's existing knowledge and understanding and fill any gaps evident and, importantly, further extend their understanding by focusing in on the application to new contexts. I pride myself on my ability to respond to my students, minute by minute, and this includes those who already have secure knowledge on the lesson topic.
Yes. I believe it is vital a student meets me and works with me before deciding to select me as their tutor.
Yes. For one to one tuition I am happy for you to pay on a weekly basis. I request all payments at least 48 hours before the lesson time and this is because your fee includes my planning and resourcing time as well as the active hour online. Some clients prefer monthly invoices and this is fine too.
For my group classes I take payment on a monthly basis. I request payment for the number of lessons in each month by the 1st calendar day of the month. This secures your child's place for the full month ahead and enables me to keep the groups small so I can provide the bespoke service I pride myself on.
Certainly! I currently work with several home schooled children.
My current families praise me for my detailed, regular contact. I adapt to your family; some parents like weekly communication, some monthly or half termly. You are always welcome to contact me for an update.
Unfortunately I do not have any availability at present for face to face tuition. Please get in touch if this is your preference and I will add you to my waiting list.
